Brightlingsea with a population of 9,000 is an ancient town on the banks of the Colne Estuary in North East Essex, good roads connect with Colchester, England's oldest recorded town (some 10 miles away), Clacton on Sea (approx. 12 miles) and the A12 links to London (approx. 60 miles). The town is steeped in historic tradition and is one of the Historic Cinque Ports.
